Sony places a miniLED QLED TV at the top of its 2024 TV lineup

Sony announced its 2024 TV lineup, and the top model, the Bravia 9, is a Mini-LED backlit QLED TV. The entry-level model (the Bravia 7) is also a QLED display, while the mid-range model, the Bravia 8, is based on LGD's WOLED panels.

The Bravia 9, Sony's flagship 2024 model, is available in 65-, 75, and 85-inch versions. At 4,000 nits, it is Sony's brightest TV ever, and it includes its XR Triluminos Pro technology and its latest XR Processor.

Nanosys: we shipped QD materials for over a thousand display products

Quantum Dots developer Nanosys announced a milestone in QD technology commercialization - the 1,000th unique display product that utilizes its QD materials. Nanosys says that it has shipped over 140 tons of QD materials and it holds more than 800 unique patents.

Nanosys offers QD solutions for LCDs, OLEDs, microLEDs and QD-EL displays (which it calls nanoLEDs). The company’s tier-one customer base includes all top-10 global television brands and four of the top-five IT brands, including Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL, Hisense, Acer, ASUS, and Phillips.

Sony launches the A95L QD-OLED TV range

Sony launched new QD-OLED TVs for 2023, the A95L series. The A95L offer 55", 65" or 77" 120Hz 4K panels, Sony's XR processor, Pentonic 1000, Acoustic Surface Audio+ and Google TV platform.

Sony did not yet announce the price and availability of its A95L OLED TVs.

Sony's A95K QD-OLED TV wins the Value Electronics 2022 4K TV shootout

US-based A/V retailer Value Electronics conducted its latest annual TV shootout. In the 4K category, the company tested 5 TVs, including an OLED TV, two miniLED QD LCDs and the two QD-OLED TVs on the market.

The winner of this year's shootout was Sony's A95K QD-OLED, which received the top marks in all categories. The runner up was Samsung's own S95B QD-OLED, which uses the same SDC panel. This is a great testimonial to Samsung's QD-OLED panel performance.

DSCC sees the QD-OLED TV market growing from 500,000 units in 2022 to 1.5 million units in 2026

DSCC says that over 500,000 QD-OLED TVs will ship in 2022, offered by both Sony and Samsung. Shipments are expected to grow and reach 1.5 million units in 2026.

The main limitation for QD-OLED TVs will by Samsung's production capacity. In 2023 the company will add 49-inch monitors and 77-inch TV panels, as SDC will start using Multi-cut Mother Glass (MMG) technology.

Reviews are in for Sony's A95K QD-OLED TV, saying the image quality is the best ever

In early 2022, Sony announced A95K Master XR TV, which is the world's first QD-OLED TV. The TV is not shipping yet (this won't happen until June), but first reviews are in.

DigitalTrends says that the display is bright (the brightest he has seen in a consumer TV) and it offers the most accurate colors he ever saw. The colors are pure and "better than any OLED, and most QLED TVs, too". In fact, the reporter concludes that the Sony A95K offers the best overall picture quality he has seen on a consumer TV, in terms of color, contrast, motion, detail and depth.

Sony to release its QD-OLED TV in June, priced at $2,999 for the 55-inch model

In early 2022, Sony announced A95K Master XR TV, which is the world's first QD-OLED TV. According to a report from Korea, Sony plans to release the A95K in June 2022, priced at $2,999 for the 55-inch model and $3,999 for the 65-inch model.

These prices, if true, are higher than most other LCD and OLED TVs on the market. The Sony A95K Master XR TV will feature 55" or 65" 4K 120Hz QD-OLED panels (produced by SDC), Sony's XR cognitive processor, Acoustic Surface Audio, XR Triluminos Max and Google TV OS.

Samsung Display launches its QD-OLED panels

Samsung Display officially launched its QD-Display panels at CES 2022, that use the company's QD-OLED technology. The company is producing three kinds of panels, 55" and 65" 4K panels for TVs and wide 34" panels for monitors

Samsung Display says that QD-OLED panels offer a superior image quality compared to LG's WOLED panels, mostly because QD-OLED is based on three RGB subpixels while WOLED is based on four WRGB subpixels. SDC says that its architecture enables higher brightness, better color fidelity and improved viewing angles.
